Arctic Char (Salvelinus alpinus) is a cold-water predator found in Norway’s highland lakes, coastal rivers, and fjords. With an average weight around 5 kg, some specimens can reach over 10 kg. Though often associated with freshwater, Arctic Char sometimes follows the baitfish out to sea, making it a surprising yet welcome catch in coastal trolling. Arctic Char feeds on small fish, insect larvae, and invertebrates, reacting well to both live bait and artificial lures. While not the easiest catch, it’s a rewarding one for those who enjoy technical, focused fishing in crisp northern waters.

How to catch a unique Arctic Char? You can catch this fish either with bait or lures.
If you prefer to use natural baits, then the best way to catch Arctic Char would be to use Finger Mullets on a size #5/0 hook.
