Atlantic Horse Mackerel (Trachurus trachurus) is a fast schooling fish commonly found near reefs and underwater structures along the Norwegian coast. Most individuals reach around 35 cm in length and weigh about 400 g, though some can grow up to 60 cm and 2 kg. It typically inhabits sandy bottoms at depths of 100–200 meters but may also appear closer to the surface. Feeding on small fish, shrimp, zooplankton, and worms, Atlantic Horse Mackerel responds well to light spinning, and fast-moving lures. Its quick strikes and lively resistance make it a fun and accessible catch.
