Black Bullhead (Ameiurus melas) is a species of Bullhead Catfish commonly found throughout the central United States. These fish usually live in slow-moving, muddy waters with soft bottoms. Black Bullhead can be identified by its squared tail fin, black barbels and a tan crescent around the tail. Average adult Black Bullheads weigh from 0.3 to 1 kg, but Trophy specimen of up to 2 kg can sometimes be caught. These fish are nocturnal omnivorous feeders and will eat almost anything, from grains and algae to insects, dead or living fish and crustaceans.
