Coalfish (Pollachius virens), also known as a pollock or saithe, is a fast-swimming, schooling predator common in the cold waters of the North Atlantic. Most fish range between 60 and 90 cm, but the biggest specimens can grow over a meter long and weigh up to 30 kg. Found near reefs, rocky slopes, and continental shelves at depths of 50 to 250 meters, Pollock is always on the move, chasing herring, cod, crustaceans, and mollusks. Thanks to its aggressive strikes and high activity levels, pollock is a favorite among sport anglers. It readily hits both natural bait and lures, making it easy to target with bottom rigs or vertical jigging.
