Common Minnow (Phoxinus phoxinus) is a small schooling diurnal fish, reaching the maximum length of 7.8 inches (20 centimeters). It can be found in streams and rivers with cold, well-oxygenated water. It prefers to stay at a shallow depth with a sandy-stony or sandy-pebbled bottom. The minnow’s diet largely consists of insects and their larvae. It likes to eat worms, plankton, fry, and caviar. Minnow is quite aggressive, which often manifests in the late afternoon. It kills and eats those fish that are smaller, and the larger ones have their fins gnawed off.
