Eldergar

Eldergar (Lepisosteus Antiquus) is probably the oldest known Longnose Gar ever recorded. Having well outlived the typical lifespan of its own species, the Eldergar at least 70 years old, which is twice the age of the oldest specimen previously recorded! No wonder this old-timer is also the largest Longnose in history – weighing almost 25 kg (55 lb)! Ichthyologists believe the reason behind this anomaly to be found in the Eldergar’s feeding habits. It appears that this old-timer has taken to a very strange diet: not only does the Eldergar hunt exclusively on American Shad, but seems to be feeding entirely of their heads, leaving the rest of the Shad bodies to be eaten by scavengers.
