Eurasian Ruffe (Gymnocephalus cernua), or simply Ruffe or pope, is a small freshwater fish of the Perch family, found in temperate regions of Eurasia. Usually preferring the bottoms of lakes and rivers with sandy or gravel bottom, Ruffe has also been also introduced to the Great Lakes in North America, but is now often considered an invasive species. This fish resembles the Yellow Perch in appearance and has markings similar to Walleye, with a golden-brown back and pale sides and a large, spiny dorsal fin to protect it from predators. This small fish rarely grows to weigh over 150 g (5.3 oz). The diet of Ruffe mainly consists of insects, invertebrates and larvae.
