European Flounder (Platichthys Flesus) is a flatfish that inhabits European coastal waters from the White Sea in the north to the Mediterranean and the Black Sea in the south. This fish can live in both salty and freshwater environments and is sometimes found in estuaries and coastal lakes. The European flounder is flat and oval in shape, with both its eyes located on the right side. The upper part of its body is usually brown or olive in colour with dark red spots. But this fish can change its colour and mimic the background for camouflage. The European Flounder usually grows to about 30 cm in length, weighing on average around 0.5 – 2 kg, although some unique specimen can reach a weight of up to 3 kg. European Flounder’s diet mostly consists of molluscs, crustaceans, worms, and small fish.
