Lake Sturgeon (Acipenser Fulvescens), sometimes called the Rock Sturgeon, is a North American freshwater species of Sturgeon that typically prefers to inhabit deep water areas of large lakes.
Like all Sturgeon, these large fish are distinguished by their elongated bodies, that resemble armored torpedos due to the bony plates on their sides and backs. Sensory barbels dangle near their mouths, helping locate bottom-dwelling prey. Lake Sturgeon can grow to over 2.2m in length, reaching a weight of over 110 kg. However, typically these fish weight from 10 to 40 kg.
Lake Sturgeon is a toothless fish, and its diet consists mostly of insect larvae, worms and mollusks that it can find in the bottom with the help of its sensory barbells. Lake Sturgeon also feeds on fish and crustaceans.
