Lenok (Brachymystax) is a predatory fish that inhabits fast rivers with cold water. It can reach more than 22 lbs (10 kilograms) in weight and a yard in length. It prefers to hide among branches, stones, flooded trees, as well as keep to sections of the river with rifts and rapids. Young Lenoks swim in flocks and tend to feed on insect larvae, worms, mollusks, caviar, and the young of other fish. Adult Lenoks hunt alone and, in addition to fish, enjoy feeding on mice, shrews, and frogs. Lenok hunts at any time of the day, but most actively — in the morning and in the evening.
