Monkey Goby (Neogobius fluviatilis) is a species of the Perciformes order, native to the basins of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. Inhabiting both fresh and brackish waters, the Monkey Goby is often found in Volga river, tributaries of Danube river, lagoons of the north-western part of the Black Sea and rivers of Caucasus. These fish prefer to stay close to sandy bottom by the shore. Covered with cycloid scales, the Monkey Goby is brownish or yellowish gray in coloration, with a pattern of dark spots. Its abdomen is lined with suckers. The average adult Monkey Goby rarely grows over 7-10 cm in length, and weighs around 50-150 g. This fish feeds primarily on molluscs and shrimp.
