Muskellunge (Esox masquinongy), often abbreviated “muskie”, is a solitary and somewhat uncommon pike valued as a fighting game fish that is native to North America. They usually have a light silver or greenish body with dark vertical stripes. The species prefers clear waters and usually lurks in aquatic vegetation. Muskies sometimes reach up to 1.8 m (6 ft) and almost 32 kg (70 lb). Most of their diets consist of fish, but can also include crayfish, frogs, ducklings, snakes, mice, other small mammals, and small birds.
