Silver Carp (Hypophthalmichthys Molitrix) is a large freshwater fish of the Carp family that is native to East Asian rivers, but also widespread in western parts of Russia. These schooling fish primarily inhabit large rivers. Silver Carp have elongated bodies with gray-greenish back and silvery sides and underbelly. They are easily distinguished from other fish of the Carp family by an unusually low position of the eyes and their large size. Adult specimen can grow in length to about 0.6 -1 m, with an average weight range of 2 – 20 kg, while unique specimen can reach over 35 kg in mass. These fish are herbivores and feed exclusively on plankton, thus being great meliorators of water bodies.
