Southern Flounder (Paralichthys lethostigma) is a popular sports fish that belongs to a species of flat-fish or large-tooth founders and is commonly found along the eastern coast of the United States and the Gulf of Mexico. Easily recognized by its laterally compressed flat body, the Southern Flounder is brown in color with barely discernible spots and blotches and typically grows to the weight of 1-3 kg, with unique specimens sometimes weighing up to 9 kg. Like all Flounders, these fish spend most of their lives lying and swimming along the bottom, feeding primarily on zooplankton and invertebrates.
