Spiny Dogfish (Squalus acanthias) is a small but sharp-toothed shark that roams the cold waters of the North Atlantic, often at depths of 50 to 150 meters. Usually measuring just over a meter and up to 10 kg, it’s a common but worthy catch for anglers targeting predators near rocky bottoms and underwater ridges. True to its name, the Spiny Dogfish is distinguished by two sharp spines: one in front of each dorsal fin, which it uses for defense.
