Trahira (Hoplias Aimara), also known as Wolf Fish or Tiger Fish, is a predatory tropical fish species native to South America that lives in freshwater habitats of most river systems on the continent. Trahira can be found in both clear, fast flowing streams, as well as slow and still waters of canals and ponds. These fish have cylindrical bodies that are brown in color, with black or dark-gray spots, covered in hard scales. Trahira have large eyes and large mouths with sharp prominent teeth. They can grow to a maximum length of about 120 cm with a record weight registered at 40 kg. Trahira are ambush predators that are mostly active at night, feeding primarily on other fish, and occasionally – crustaceans or invertebrates.
