Biara (Rhaphiodon vulpinus) is a small predator inhabiting the Amazon and Orinoco basins and usually feeding on other fish. They love river canals, flooded forests and lakes. Like other members of their family, they exhibit a bull-like jaw with sharp canine teeth, but can be distinguished by their elongated and streamlined body shape. They are dark blue with silvery sheen and have a pronounced lateral line from the gills to the tail. Their pectoral fins are visibly elongated. Biara can gain up to 2 kg and seldom grow over 60 cm in length.
