Zander (Sander Lucioperca) is a popular European game species of fish that is closely related to Perch and is often called the European Pikeperch. Although widespread in both freshwater and brackish habitats throughout western Eurasia, Zander prefer to inhabit large freshwater rivers and lakes. Sometimes called Pike-perch, Zander is even considered to be a hybrid of the two species, as it looks a lot like Pike due to its elongated body, while having a spiny dorsal fin, just like Perch. Zander usually grow to an average weight of 2 – 4 kg, but it’s possible to land a unique specimen weighing up to 7 kg! Similar to Perch, these predatory fish are carnivorous, and as adults they feed mostly on other fish.
