Asp (Leuciscus Aspius) is a European freshwater fish of the Carp family. It inhabits many of the large rivers that fall into the Black, Caspian and Baltic seas, as well as some waterways in the Middle East. Asp prefer waterways with moderate and fast paced current, usually staying closer to the surface. Asp can distinguished by its blue-gray body with silvery sides and white belly. These fish can live up to 15 years, while growing to an average length of around 80 cm and weighing 2 to 7 kg. But unique specimens are known to grow up to 12 kg in mass! Asp usually feed on insects, worms, crustaceans, and small fish.
